I am originally from Colorado and am a graduate of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s sports medicine program and have a background as a strength and conditioning coach. Earlier in my life, I was a long sprinter for the University of Colorado at Boulder’s track and field team before joining CU’s triathlon team where I was a scoring member of the team’s first National Collegiate Championship team. Since then I have remained a competitive athlete in a variety of sports and currently compete in master’s track and field in the 400m and 800m long sprints. I also enjoy hiking with my family, lifting kettlebells, long-distance cycling, going to live music shows at small venues, and strolling through art museums.

This is my 8th year as the K-5 School Counselor and I can't wait to continue to support all of the students! I am originally from San Diego, California, but I attended Kansas State University (Go Cats!) for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I received my Master of Science in School Counseling in December 2014 and received my two Bachelor of Science degrees in Secondary Education and Dance in December 2012. Besides my job as a School Counselor, I teach dance at Miller’s Dance Studio and choreograph for their competition team. I have danced since I was 2 years old and it has been a huge part of my life. My absolute favorite job though is being a Mom to my 2-year-old son! Overall, I love spending time with my family and friends, playing with my dog, reading, going to Disney, shopping, and watching tv/movies!

Formerly Señorita Shugert, I am delighted to be returning as one of SVA's Elementary Spanish teachers as Señora Rodriguez! A Colorado native, I lived in Mexico for two years as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant and have enjoyed traveling to other Latin American countries. Among my favorite things about living in Mexico are the street vendors selling delicious treats, the warmth of the people and the richness of cultural traditions dating back centuries. It is my joy to share the Spanish language and the culture of those who speak it with SkyView students while making language learning meaningful and engaging. When not with students, I enjoy hiking in the mountains, making music, salsa dancing and spending time with my new husband!

I am a Colorado native! Most of the time you can find me spending time with my family and friends or cooking and exploring new dishes. Most of my time is spent traveling to various soccer games/tournaments with my two sons in the spring and fall, as well as heading to the mountains to ski during the winter. Prior to teaching, I worked in the credit union industry overseeing the marketing department and served as a volleyball coach (now retired). This will be my sixth year of teaching and I look forward to the opportunity to interact with and learn from a new group of students and form new relationships.
