Lori Bachtel, Head of Operations
I’m excited for another year in this leadership role as Head of Operations, overall this is my 8th year at SVA. I bring to SkyView an extensive background in Accounting, ranging from Corporate Accounting and Banking to Project Accounting at the Douglas County School District. While at Douglas County, I managed funds from Bonds and funds from Certificates of Purchase for Construction projects. One of the many projects that I oversaw funding for was the original purchase and construction of SkyView Academy. I am extremely excited to be working in the education field supporting the staff and students of SVA. I look forward to providing all that I can to make SkyView Academy a leading charter school. In addition to my work hat at SVA, I also served as the MS Girls Basketball coach for 5 years, which was very rewarding. I am originally from Kansas, where I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Master’s degree in Business Administration. I love being in beautiful Colorado but also enjoy traveling to new places. Outside of the office, I enjoy skiing, hiking, reading, watching sports and spending time with my husband and two children.
Rob Harris, High School Principal
My educational journey has been defined by my love of teaching and coaching. I have always wanted to be in a role where I can inspire and motivate people to be their best. Teaching and coaching has afforded me this opportunity. My role as a leader has been shaped by great people around me who have invested time in me, and I find it a privilege to have an opportunity to do the same for others. I am humbled to be a part of this amazing team and I look forward to continuing the great success of SkyView Academy.
Janet Worley, PreK – 8th Principal
John C. Maxwell said, “Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” I subscribe to this claim completely. Further, I believe and fully support the vision and mission of SkyView. During my time at SkyView, I have had the privilege of investing in the lives of our students and families in a tangible way. I serve the community alongside some of the most amazing educators in the field, and I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the SkyView community in the role of middle school principal. My educational journey led me to SkyView in 2013. I graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in 1992, then went on to attend Bethany College in Scotts Valley, California in 1994 where I completed graduate school for Curriculum and Instruction. Before moving to Colorado with my husband Paul, whom I have known since elementary school, I taught middle school English for five years. I taught in Colorado for five years before deciding to stay home for a few years with my two beautiful children, Maddy and Hunter. Maddy committed to Northern Arizona University on early decision in September 2015 and is enrolled in honors college and intends to double major in Criminology and Photography. Hunter continues to pursue his passions of sports broadcasting and baseball.
Javier Negron, 7th-12th Assistant Principal
I am so fortunate to be part of the leadership team at SkyView Academy and honored to work alongside an amazing team of educators. My journey of working in education has not been traditional, but education has always been at the core of all that I have done. I was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Orlando, Florida in the middle of 7th grade. My Puerto Rican heritage has provided me with a love of family, music, food, language, and culture. After earning my undergraduate degree from Florida State University, I had the great opportunity to teach in a small school in Panajachel, Guatemala. My experiences in Central America inspired me to pursue graduate studies in Psychology. My internship brought our family out to Denver where I had the privilege to work at Children’s Hospital Colorado. I worked for nearly ten years in a neurological rehabilitation setting helping infants, children and teenagers recover from brain and spinal cord injuries. In my pursuit to return to education, I landed a dream job here at SkyView Academy teaching Spanish and Leadership in Fall of 2014. SVA’s vision to prepare students to be lifelong learners and honorable leaders exemplifies what I value in education for my own children, who both attend and will graduate from SkyView Academy. Sebastian is now a sophomore in our high school and Siena is an 8th grader in our middle school. My lovely wife of 17 years works at Craig Hospital and we love our pet-filled home in Roxborough, Colorado. Most weekends we are either at soccer games or anything outdoors. I am so excited about this school year and humbled to be in my new role as assistant principal.
Paula Harrison, PreK-6th Assistant Principal
It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with the Leadership team at SVA. I graduated from Southern Illinois University after having two children, Nicolas and Jenna, and then moved to Colorado. For the past 20 years, I have been working at charter schools in the South Metro area mostly as an elementary teacher serving students in grades 3-5, as well as being a literacy specialist for a few years. I believe in the the vision and mission here at SkyView and look forward to working with the amazing staff here. Back to my children: Nicolas, a graduate of Metro, is married to my wonderful daughter-in-law, Katie, and they blessed me with two adorable granddaughters, Mallory and Lucy. My daughter, Jenna, is attended grad school at Metro and graduated with a Masters in Social Work. I spend my free time with my kids, traveling to college football games, and hiking and camping during the summer.
Kim Ellis, Preschool and BASE Director
Hello Preschool Families! My name is Kimberly Ellis. I am so excited to be heading into my third year with SkyView Academy. I am so excited to be working with all the amazing teachers here at SkyView. I love that you can feel their passion for teaching, right as you walk in the door. I studied at Colorado State University, obtaining my Bachelors degree in History in May, 2007. My original dream was to become a History teacher but fell in love with the “littles” and Early Childhood Education. I then continued my education in Early Childhood and obtained my Director’s licence in 2013. I have taught Preschool for eight years and was an Assistant Director for three years. I am thrilled to be continuing in my career and calling SkyView Academy my home. I can’t wait to meet the students and families I will be working with this school year. I am looking forward to putting my skills and knowledge into practice, to continue on in my journey of being an effective Early Childhood Educator so your students get the high quality education they all deserve.
