Olivia Berglund, Class of 2016

Olivia received a BA in Studio Arts with a concentration in Photography from George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon in 2020. She is also an alumna of the university’s Honors Program, and completed a minor in French language after studying abroad in Dijon, France at the Centre International d’Études Françaises. During her four years at GFU, she traveled abroad for both educational and immersive purposes to places including Nepal, Israel, and Europe. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, she worked in the nonprofit sector with an organization supporting girls’ access to education in Tanzania, as well as received competitive grants to execute creative multi-media projects. Olivia is currently pursuing post-graduate study in the UK for documentary media and anthropology.

"“The classical Socratic approach that SVA takes to education was really beneficial to my career as an Honors scholar in college, as well as prepared me for the university’s smaller class sizes. The relationships I formed with my English, French, and art teachers at SVA were especially beneficial when deciding what I wanted to study, and the foundations I built in their classes were so helpful as I began university-level education. For example, my freshman year of college I tested into the highest level French class available, and was therefore eligible for work-study as a TA throughout my four years at GFU. I would recommend SVA to anyone looking for a community-centered high school experience that emphasizes college preparation.”

Claire Wilhoite, Class of 2015

College of Attendance: University of Saint MaryClaire graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology. She received Departmental Honors in Biology and All-University Honors and was a member of the Honors Program. She was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete (needing a 3.5 cumulative GPA and playing a varsity sport) while playing Varsity Women’s Soccer for her university for three years. In her freshman year of college, she was the recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award by Student Government for creating a new club while a freshman. Claire went on an 8 day medical mission trip to Peru her sophomore year, where she helped set up and maintain medical clinics in multiple pueblos throughout the country. She was involved in several clubs on campus and held leadership roles within each club. She will be pursuing a doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Florida in Fall of 2019.

“SkyView Academy’s small class sizes, Socratic seminars, and debates taught me how to think and defend my thoughts in a well-researched manner. My freshman year of college was a breeze because I knew how to break down writing prompts, read and comprehend scientific literature, and debate in an effective manner, unlike many of my classmates. As a result of SkyView’s small school size and the genuine care of teachers, I was able to balance academics and athletics. I participated in many varsity level sports and, with the help and encouragement of Coach Martin, was recruited to play collegiate varsity soccer. My SkyView Academy education provided the foundation necessary to ultimately get admitted into the highly competitive Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Florida.”
