Hawkettes Take Home 2A State Championship Title

12/15/22

The SkyView Academy Hawkettes launched their dance season with nothing short of excellence and continued at full speed. They opened with a strong start at the UDA summer camp in July, where the team earned third place with their home routine and a bid to Nationals! The team gained confidence after camp and stayed motivated as they prepared for their competition season. Coach Grace Russo says, "I was fortunate to have my assistant coach, Paige Jaudon, with me this season. She brought a competitive aspect to the team and pushed the girls to their highest potential. The team came in every day ready to get to work."

With a first-place division win from NDA regionals, the Hawkettes pressed on and claimed an additional first-place win at the Road 2 State competition just the weekend before State. The Hawkettes had two wins under their belt, but they knew they would have to work even harder for State. Anything was possible, and this team had the drive to make it happen!

The team started early on the day of State, competing in prelims at 8:30 am. Crossing their fingers, they eagerly anticipated the news of advancing as they knew only two teams would be selected in advance. Once they received the news they had been hoping for, they put their heads down and got to work. At 5:30 pm, it was time for the Hawkette's finals performance. The team fought hard and left their hearts on the State floor.

The SkyView Hawkettes took home the title of 2A Poms State Champions, making this the first State Championship in school history. This was such a special moment for the program and SkyView Academy. Coach Russo boasted, "I feel so honored to be a part of it all. A tremendous thank you to our amazing choreographer, Mistelle Jimenez, for creating such a great routine for us. We couldn’t have done it without her!"

Senior Natalie Mosher was nominated and selected for the 2022 CHSAA All-Elite team. Natalie has been on the SVA Poms team for four years and has shown true commitment to her team. Her coaches, teammates, and community are proud of her well-deserved success in this achievement.

Coach Russo reflects, "These athletes have inspired me with their mental strength, perseverance, and dedication to this sport. All season we have worked to grow and do our personal best. We are full of pride and gratitude and humbled to be State Champions."
