The 2022 board election drew seven candidates and had some of the highest voter participation seen in years, exceeding minimum requirements by double! Thank you to all the candidates who stepped up to run and the voters who participated. We’re pleased to announce the two new board members:
Chris Coberly: who ran for re-election and has been on the board for 3 years, most recently as board president
Mark McLaughlin: who is new to the board but has been part of the SVA community for many years.
Chris was born and raised in Southern California. An entrepreneur at heart, he has been involved in various start-up companies and currently is owner and CEO of People Element, where they help companies meet their employee engagement and retention goals.
Chris has served on the SkyView Academy Board for almost three years including as President for the last year. Prior to joining the SVA Board, Chris served on the Mountain Vista High School SAC committee. Working with youth is one of his passions. He has been involved with youth programs through church and The Boy Scouts of America his entire life. He and his wife Jenni lived in Utah and Arizona before settling 15 years ago in the best place they’ve lived, Colorado. They have a daughter who is a Junior at Brigham Young University, a Freshman daughter at Colorado Christian University, and a Sophomore son at SkyView. Because his children have been enrolled in SkyView since it opened its doors, he is passionate about the school’s success and continuing to provide stability and consistency for the students, faculty, and staff.
My wife and I are both Colorado natives, and our five daughters have exclusively attended SkyView, and as such, we have at least one student in each of the three schools. Needless to say we have been a part of the SkyView family for over ten years and have a lot invested! We love to be involved at SkyView, and I also enjoy occasionally teaching Sunday School at our church, and coaching my girls whenever possible.
I attended Metro State University and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems. Currently I am the Director of Global Data and Digital Technology for Optiv, and am also a member of the off-ice officiating crew for the National Hockey League at Colorado Avalanche home games.
I strive to bring to this board position the same values SkyView is instilling into our students: character, service, and integrity, as well as a balanced view of what is best for our students, parents, and staff. My vision and goal for SkyView is to accept the baton from the current board, and accelerate SkyView to the next level over the course of the next three years and continue to develop honorable leaders in this next generation.
