At SkyView Academy we are proud to be a multicultural school. We are one of the most diverse schools in Douglas County. We have many students that speak another language in their home and encourage families to use their native language at home. Being multilingual is an asset in today’s world. Knowing multiple languages has shown to be beneficial for brain development and is a great achievement.
At SkyView we use various service models to support multilingual learners. We serve students using an inclusion model which ensures that students receive the majority of English language support in the general education classroom. The service models featured at SkyView are:
Co-teaching: Co-teaching pairs the ESL and content teacher to co-teach content courses. Collaboration leads to lesson planning and instruction tailored to both linguistic and academic needs of ELs.
Push-In: In Push-In ELD, English Learners experience targeted ELD inside the regular classroom setting according to their specific linguistic needs. Push-In ELD may be connected with the content currently experienced in the classroom, and the focus is ELD.
Pull-Out: In Pull-Out ELD, English Learners temporarily experience targeted or intensive ELD instruction outside the regular classroom setting according to their specific linguistic needs.
Sheltered Content Courses: Sheltered Content Courses can be taken by students who do not have the linguistic capacity to be successful in the typical content courses. Courses such as ESL English and ESL Elective are offered to meet these needs.

I think what really sets SkyView apart is how much the teachers and staff care about you. I was able to build a relationship with every teacher and staff member from the literature teacher I’ve had since freshman year, the nice lunch lady, and to the Principal who knew the entire middle school by name. These guardians protect priceless works of art from rats and are valued by the whole staff. Each cat even has a personal passport with a photo and receives a regular salary. [Source]
Did you know that over 400 million people speak Spanish, making it the world’s second most spoken language? Spanish only falls in second place behind Chinese, which is spoken by over a billion people and far outranks any other language. Spanish surpasses English in its number of speakers, as English comes in third place with 335 million native speakers around the world. [Source]
Did you know that if you have parents that are over 60 years old, it’s illegal to not visit them regularly? This is a part of The Elderly Right Law. This is definitely one of the most interesting China facts, since, in many other countries, the elders are being forgotten or put into a rest-home. [Source]
Did you know almost every household in Vietnam has a motorcycle? Not bad when you consider the population is around 90 million. By comparison, the UK with a population of around 60 million has just one million motorcycles! Vietnam plans to reduce the number of bikes or completely ban them in cities like Hanoi who rely heavily on new public transport systems being integrated, but by all accounts, that isn’t going smoothly! Due to the number of motorbikes and other vehicles on the road, every traveler knows that crossing the road in Vietnam can terrify newcomers! It’s one aspect of culture shock that you’ll need to get used to pretty fast, especially if you’re planning to visit one of Vietnam’s major cities. [Source]
